Album Launch: The Nicholas Combe Nonet – Once is Enough
Saturday 16th April 8pm
The Nicholas Combe Nonet Debut Album release:
Once Is Enough.
$15/10 at the door only, which includes digital download
The Nicholas Combe Nonet will launch a new album in 2016, returning to the very room the album was recorded in over a year ago for a special one off appearance before Combe disappears for a sabbatical to Indonesia.
Although regular Canberra gig-goers may recognise Combe from a variety of different outfits, usually touting a very large saxophone, a beer and a batik shirt, this album will be the first release under his own name, and features a more personal side, with compositions from the back catalogue that have been waiting a long time to get released. As stated from Melbourne/Berlin/Canberra’s own free playing trumpet player Reuben Lewis, who features on the album- “It’s about bloody time!”
The concert will feature the album in its entirety as well as some songs by some of Combe’s favourite Jazz composers Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington, over two sets with a short interval.
There will be Vinyl LPs and digital downloads available on the night
The nonet features:
Reuben Lewis – Trumpet
Alex Raupach – Trumpet
Valdis Thomann – Trombone
Tom Fell – Saxophones
Nicholas Combe – Baritone Saxophone
Matthew Lustri – Guitar
Damien Slingsby – Piano
Simon Milman – Double Bass
Luke Glanville – Drums
